Improving search engine ranking is one of the most easy way to increase website traffic and promoting  the content, product or service to consumers who might be interested in what you are offering. Most of the major search engines use algorithm to decide websites ranking. There are few criteria set by search engines to get a good ranking. Although they differ one to another but the core requirements are more or less same.

There are different factors they consider, such as: what content  (uniqueness) your site offering, how the code was written (optimization) and how popular your site among users (link popularity).

In order to get a good ranking you can render your site, which is widely known as Search engine Optimization aka SEO. You can also do some DIY SEO for your site instead of hiring SEO professionals those who can be sometimes expensive.  .


Steps



1.Research what your target audience keywords. What words they use to search. There are several tools available online. Some of them are free.

2.Do not focus on few "important" keywords. The first thing you will realize how many visitors you will get from not-related keywords. If your website about "London Pub", don't just focus on keywords like pub, drink, ale etc. Go for something else too. i.e. night life, restaurant, popular venue etc.

3.Always the user first. Do not make a website just targeting search engines. Search engine algorithm changes almost everyday. So give time to the content of your site. Grow your website. Always post something new to your site. If the content is good always an user will come back hence the search engine would come back too. But if you can't attract the end user you will lose both. On your content, use the keywords 3/5 times but don't overdo it.

4.Use different titles for different pages, it will help the search engine to understand what is your page all about. Use meta tag. Meta tags are two types-

•Title Tag - Most important tags for search engines. Google supports 60 character and yahoo supports 110 characters. It should be unique in every pages
•Meta Description Tag - Try to write a short description about the posting you have. All search engines read the description. Google reads first 160 characters of the description. Do not fill it up with keywords. Search engines are designed to read the description as a human can do.

5.Keep the permalink structure easy to understand. If your post has a structure like this - <http://www.example.com/4jm2m39sm5mfu6isk3ksmsj5k?/?$%heydjd%/&sdjj32> it's a time to think about something else. How on earth a search engine will match something with this kind of permalink? Try to keep simple and not too far from the domain name. For instance you can use a permalink such as - http://www.mamunahmed.com/02/cuil-was-not-cool-enough. Easy to understand and simple. Avoid parameters with dynamic URL. (&,?). Stick to basic HTML

6.Create a sitemap and put one in the root directory as well as on your site. Maybe all of your posts will not have links to other pages but a sitemap will show the search engine where to crawl on your site

7.Link your site with other sites with similar type of contents. Avoid spam sites. It will only do harm your site. Try to link popular sites, use their reference and link from your site so they will be motivated to do so. Avoid dumping hundreds of links on the footer of your pages. You might lose your ranking overnight for that

8.Use webmaster tool to assess the health of your site. One of the best and free one is Google webmaster tool.

Tips

  • Microsoft uses the Family Online Safety Institute [1] for the rating service. You can customize and see if that fits in your need.
  • Consider installing web filtering software such as [2], which allows or disallows websites based on their content. Some good free web filtering software is: K9 Web Protection, Naomi, NetDog Internet Filter, and SafeSquid.

  • If someone types the URL in the search engine (Google), and the websites comes up as the search result, then they can click on the cached link and see the earlier version of that site.

Yes, you can make a webpage without learning HTML. But should you? No. Because, for one thing, you will have problems somewhere down the road, no matter what webpage editor you're using, and you will need to know HTML to fix it. This article shows you the basics of creating a website in HTML. With this basic introduction, you'll soon be able to make a webpage from scratch!

Steps

  1. Understand what HTML is. Technically, it stands for Hypertext Markup Language, but that's not important. It's the coding language that make web-pages. Go into Netscape and choose from the VIEW menu "page source" (earlier versions called this "document source"). Or, in Internet Explorer, the VIEW menu option is "source". In Mozilla Firefox, press [Ctrl]+U to view the page's source code. In Safari, select View - View Source (or Option+Command+U). You will see a page of code, and that is HTML. That code is what your browser sees and then interprets it into that nice web-page you see.
  2. Remember: not all pages are equally complex! Start with a really simple page, or you'll get overwhelmed by the syntax and the script languages.
    • It's important to remember that you'll be writing your information between an opening HTML tag and a closing HTML tag. An opening tag looks like: <___> and a closing tag is like so: where the ___ is replaced with a code.
  3. Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > Click Notepad.
  4. Tell the browser what language we are using. Type . It is the first tag we write (tells the computer we're starting a web-page), and it will be closed last, so at the end of the document, close it off by typing this : (ends web-page)
  5. Add the heading of the page as shown.

  8. Write some text between the body tags.

  9. Add some pictures. If you want to put a picture from the Internet onto your web page, this is the HTML code for pictures :  <img src="URL">. The closing tag is: </img>but it is optional.

  11. Save by going to "save as", put a filename with an .html extension (such as "testfile.html")and choose "all files" or "txt" under file type. It won't work if both are not done. Now go find it wherever you saved it, double click it, and your default web browser should open up your very own web-page!

Tips

  • If your web-page isn't working, copy and paste the sample HTML code from above and save as instructed, then view the page. Play around with the existing code as you learn.
  • When you open a tag, you must close it, unless it is one of those tags that don't need to be closed, like <img> or <hr>

  • Closing tags cannot be placed anywhere. The "last" tag "in" must be the "first" tag "out"like this statements
